Girl Guides’ unplugged weekend

-

GIRL Guides from Gatley and Cheadle Hulme had to survive without their mobile phones and iPods on an unforgettable adventure weekend.

They joined more than 400 other girls from across the north west for the Guides Off The Grid outdoor challenge.

The guides were asked to turn off all technology and get ‘back to basics’ through a variety of different activities including a high ropes course, a climbing wall, archery and abseiling.

The weekend finished with an It’s A Knockout style challenge where the girls worked in teams to complete an inflatable assault course.

Charlotte Wright, 11, of 3rd Gatley Guide Unit said: “I had a great time at Guides off the Grid and made loads of new friends. My favourite activity was the high ropes course, even though it was a bit scary.

“I also enjoyed working together as a team with the other guides.”

Julie Bell, region chief commissioner, said the girls learned new skills while having plenty of fun. She said: “Guides off the Grid gave our girls from across the region a fabulous opportunity to experience some great adventurous activities.

“The guides gained skills whilst having tons of fun and mayhem!”

“Girlguiding gives girls and young women the chance to have fun, build friendships and make a positive difference in their community.”
