Reddish sports centre up for leading national award
A SPORTS centre in Reddish is in the running to be named ‘Leisure Centre of the Year’
Houldsworth Village is in the final of the 2016 UKActive Flame Awards.
The Life Leisure run facility is well known for its ‘Performance Zone’ which includes specialist weight lifting equipment. Competitions are regularly held at the site, which is also a training base for a number of professional weight lifters, many of whom are affiliated to Arnies Inclusive Powerlifting and Weight lifting Club as well as the newly formed Spartan Weight lifting Club.
It also offers range of activities catering for all ages and abilities. The weekly programme includes everything from children’s activities through to ‘walking football.’
The centre, which has two indoor five-a-side pitches, a basketball court, badminton facilities, large studio, dedicated spin studio and fitness suite has seen its membership increase twofold in the last 18 months alone.
The national awards, which cover the entire health and leisure industry, are the pinnacle of recognition for the UK fitness industry.
The awards are shortlisted and decided based on independent member surveys, ‘mystery shopping’ to spot-check staff knowledge and performance, and a rigorous assessment by an independent panel of industry expert.
Life Leisure operations assistant Michaela Pennington said: “The Flame Awards are the awards that every sports and leisure facility wants to win.
“To have reached the final for the second year running is a real testament to the work our staff have put into making the centre a welcoming place for all our members.”
The centre also reached the final of last year’s awards.
It will find out if it has won the award at a ceremony due to take place later this month.
