Little princesses and pirates raise money at nursery fun day
CHILDREN were able to dress up as characters from two of the best-loved films of recent years at a nursery fun day.
Happy Day Nursery, on Heath Road, Cale Green, held a pirate and princess fancy dress day to celebrate its 24th anniversary of opening.
Youngsters came dressed as characters from Disney movie Frozen and Pirates of the Caribbean.
And as a special surprise Gemma Blades, from Theatre Tots, visited dressed as Princess Elsa, from Frozen.
The children also took part in a sponsored treasure hunt to raise money for the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research.
It is a charity close to home for the nursery as one of the children, Anabella Williams, two, has been diagnosed with the condition
Prader-Willi is a genetic condition that affects one in 15,000 births and symptoms can include abnormal growth, obesity and learning difficulties.
Staff will also be taking part in One Small Step, a 12.5mile sponsored walk between the Almond Family pubs in Stockport on July 23.
The pubs belong to the family of Anabella’s mum Vicki Almond.
Similar events last year raised £1,300 for the charity and the nursery is hoping to beat the total this year. The 2016 amount currently stands at £800.
Debi Warner, from the nursery, said: “This is a charity close to our hearts. Anabella is coming up to three years old and as she gets older the problems will affect her more.
“She is absolutely adorable. She is a happy sociable little girl who is always happy and waves to everyone.
“The condition is rare and the charity don’t get any funding and are run by volunteers.”
