Bouncing back from galling loss

ANDREW REYNOLDS AFTER a slightly delayed arrival due to bad traffic on Saturday, Bramhall arrived at Nantwich looking to make amends for the galling defeat at home to Timperley the previous week.

Nick Cantello opted to bowl first, with muggy and warm overhead conditions promising a bit of swing for Bramhall’s new look opening attack of Danny Lamb and debutant Chris Sanders.

Both were quickly into their stride, beating the bat regularly and barely bowling a bad ball to the extent that Nantwich’s top order were under extreme pressure.

The top three quickly capitulate­d, with two for Lamb and one for Sanders, reducing the hosts to 15 for 3.

Ryan Brown then began to build a platform for his team, staying patient against the nagging accuracy of Luke Littlewood who had replaced Sanders and was rewarded for his patient line and length with the wicket of Cook-Sievewrigh­t for 19, eventually finishing with a very handy 1 for 35 from 14 overs.

Brown realised he had to up the tempo, and when Simon Wilkinson was introduced he wasted no time in taking the attack to him, finding the gaps in the field with clever sweeps, dabs and drives and going on to complete a very accomplish­ed hundred.

Wilkinson was able to pick up two wickets as the other batsmen struggled for rhythm, and when Iftikhar Naseer replaced him Brown was finally dismissed, holing out to long on.

When Griffiths followed next ball, 200 still seemed a long way off, but Louis Cameron smashed a quick 32 and Nantwich eventually were dismissed for 215.
