Is your favourite pub the best in Stockport?
STOCKPORT’S radio station Pure 107.8FM is looking for the best pub in the borough with their annual Stockport’s Perfect Pub competition.
Listeners are being asked to put forward their suggestions for the best pub in Stockport. Six will be chosen and then put to a public vote.
Last year the Fiveways pub in Hazel Grove walked away with the title. Managers Stephen and Vicky Henry cracked open a bottle of champagne with their team and regulars to celebrate during a live broadcast from the pub.
The couple have run The Fiveways since Joseph Holt’s spent £1.8 million on a refurbishment two and a half years ago. They also won an award for the best food pub in the Holt’s estate so Stephen and Vicky had a couple of trophies to proudly display behind their bar.
Pure received hundreds of votes from regulars in the pubs across Stockport that had been selected for the final. The Fiveways was the convincing winner with an impressive 47 per cent of the vote.
Pure 107.8FM’s Paul Holloway, who presents ‘Stockport’s Drive Home’ weekdays 2-7pm, presented
“But it became apparent very quickly talking to Stephen and Vicky that they are very proactive in the community, often putting on special events.
“They have a big team but it’s obvious their staff work hard to ensure the pub still has the same personal feel that you find in a cosy traditional local.”
The Church Inn, Cheadle Hulme was the runner-up in 2015 with The Victoria, in Offerton taking third place.
Other pubs that have had the honour of being crowned Stockport’s Perfect Pub include The Three Bears in Hazel Grove, The Windsor Castle in Marple Bridge, The Nursery Inn in Heaton Norris, The Hesketh Tavern in Cheadle Hulme as well as The Railway Inn and Three Tunnes both on the A6.
You have until July 15 to nominate your favourite pub. Send your suggestions to pub@pureradio.org.uk.
