Adswood footballers show Roy’s boys how to win cup
EURO 2016 isn’t the only high profile soccer tournament decided this summer - the winners of the Stockport Football Community Championships have been crowned.
The victorious side were Party Car, from Adswood, who triumphed in the final at Stockport Sports Village, in Woodley, to retain the title they won last year.
The participants in the finals had all been in the top two in local tournaments held in Offerton, Brinnington, central Stockport and Adswood/Bridgehall.
Organisers Life Leisure described the finals as ‘highly competitive’ and following a group stage Party Car beat Adswood rivals Xavi Dodgers 3-1 at the semi final stage.
The other semi saw a Brinnington derby between Brinny Life and Brinny Left Overs, with the former edging a penalty shootout 3-2 following a 0-0 draw.
Party Car then won the final 1-0 with Xavi Dodgers claiming the bronze medal in a third place play off.
Other organisers of the events were the council’s neighbourhood inclusion teams and community volunteers.
Sam Barton, from Life Leisure, said: “Party Car were unbeaten going into the final against Brinny Life, and it was an extremely close, and tense, game with only one goal edging it. Party Car were again victorious retaining the trophy.
“We would like to thank everyone who supported all of the events whether that was as an organiser, volunteer, player or spectator in order to make all of the tournaments such special events.”
