Big five-day festival set to make its m-ark
THE animals are lining up two by two as a church prepares to host a bumper five day-festival.
St George’s, on Buxton Road, Heaviley, holds such a summer event every few years and for 2016 it takes place from July 6 to 10 with the theme of Noah and his ark.
People have been knitting animals to be part of the display and among those involved is Jane Roughley, who has created a large giraffe named George.
Other highlights of the festival will be children from St George’s Primary performing the Noah musical, Splash, on Friday, July 8, and a pet service on the Sunday morning at 10.15am. Both real and crafted animals are welcome.
Saturday will feature a sing a long as well as a visit from Robinson’s brewery dray horses and plumed horses.
Throughout the week there will also be an arts and crafts exhibition with most of the exhibits relating to the animals in the ark, water and the environment.
St George’s also hosts a Christmas tree Festival every November.
The last summer festival was in 2011 and the theme was Joseph and his coat of many colours.
For the occasion parishioners and residents knitted a huge colourful coat that made it into the Guinness Book of Records. Visit stgeorgestockport.org.uk for more information.
