●●NIGEL Cartner from multi-genre show, Sonic Bandwagon, every Friday on Pure 107.8FM at 10pm, previews one of the North West’s fastest growing summer events, The Blackthorn Music Festival.

This weekend Blackthorn Music Festival returns to the Whitebottom Farm, Etherow Country Park.

It promises to be another feast for showcasing some of the best music in the British scene today.

The organisers have been inundated with applications this year and have whittled down the hopefuls to a rich blend of superlative music that caters for all tastes, providing a balance of genres that focuses around the indie, rock and acoustic scenes, with an emphasis on local talent.

Maximo Park will headline on Sunday and there is plenty of new music on offer as well as the customary tribute acts Kazabian, Antarctic Monkeys and the legendary Bootleg Beatles. The 1990s legends Stereo MCs are also present to provide some original nostalgia to the weekend, and iconic DJs, Craig Charles and Clint Boon are booked in to deliver the tunes and beats on the decks to keep the crowd’s energy simmering between acts.

It promises to be another summer highlight, and having attended last year for my festival camping debut, it’s an event I dare not miss again.

If you like your music and festivals to be laid back, fun and set in a beautiful, safe environment then Blackthorn is a must attend.

A full list of bands/ artists, prices and other entertainment details can be found at blackthorn music festival.co.uk.

Also a reminder to local teenagers that it’s not too late to enrol in Pure’s new FREE six week media course that starts on August 1.
