Primary pupils all in it together for national inclusivity award
WORK to promote inclusivity and understanding has seen Cale Green primary recognised at a national awards ceremony.
The school, on Shaw Road South, came second in the annual Accord Inclusivity Award, which is open to all schools in England and Wales.
Judges were impressed with the provision of sex and relationship education and that it has pupils that have 15 different first languages.
There was further praise for focus on ethnic and religious inclusivity, charitable activities and outside school trips to boost cultural awareness.
Pupils at the school have also done their bit for the environment, enthusiastically taking part in a drive to bike to school rather than go it the car.
Headteacher David Marshall said: “We are incredibly proud that the award recognises our whole school community’s ongoing commitment to inclusion.
At the heart of our school is the ethos that we will provide the very best possible education for all the children in our care and they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to prepare them fully for life in been given a prize of £250.
Chair of the judging panel, Rabbi Dr Jonathan Romain, said: “Though often overlooked, nurturing pupils for life as active citizens in an increasingly diverse society are vital ingredients to furthering future opportunities and fulfilment.
“The judging panel are therefore delighted to highlight Cale Green Primary School as an example for other schools to follow.
“Several of its innovative areas of its work stood out. Most noticeable was it provision of sex and relationships education and the way the school managed to engage with parents about the subject.
“The topic can sometimes draw strong opinion and emotion, but when taught to a high standard, like at Cale Green, it can make a major impact on the future health and wellbeing of pupils.”
