Fond farewell for head who helped transform school
A MUCH-LOVED headteacher will bid a final farewell to the classroom as she retires having helped transform her school.
Kath Conwell will leave Adswood Primary, on Garners Lane after 11 years, two outstanding Ofsted reports and one visit from superstar Gary Barlow.
The school had been in special measures but is now seen as a ‘wonderful learning environment.’
And it even got a ringing endorsement from former take That star Gary Barlow when he visited while in Manchester for x-Factor auditions in 2013.
After his visit he tweeted: “Just been to an amazing school with an inspirational headmistress.”
Kath said: “I have loved every minute of my time at Adswood Primary but my proudest moments have to be the past two Ofsted inspections which have rated the school outstanding in many ways.
“And the visit from Gary Barlow of course! I will obviously miss the children, their families, the staff, governors and the local authority, all of whom have shown me fantastic support throughout my time here.
“It is hard to believe that the school was once in special measures.”
Kath now hopes to travel and have a role supporting other schools to improve.
Stockport MP Ann Coffey visited the school to say goodbye to Kath.
She said: “Adswood Primary is a wonderful learning environment to help all the children fulfill their potential.
“Whenever I visit, I am so impressed by the children’s achievements and good behaviour, as well as the way parents and grandparents get involved in the life of the school.
“I want to thank Kath for leading Adswood Primary School to success and for touching everyone’s heart along the way.
“I wish her a very happy retirement.”
