Sell-out weekend for re-opening of newly restored Bramall Hall

-

TICKETS for the re-opening of the recently restored Bramall Hall have sold out.

A total of 1,400 people will be among the first to see the inside of the historic building since it closed its doors for a £1.6m refurbishment.

Coun Kate Butler, cabinet member for economy and regeneration, said: “I’m very excited for the reopening of Bramall Hall and we can’t wait to welcome people back inside.

“It’s great news that the 1,400 tickets were sold out, confirming Bramall Hall’s status as a main local and regional visitor destination.”

Those who couldn’t get their hands on a ticket are still invited to come along and enjoy the Tudor Festival outside the hall throughout the opening weekend on Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31.

There will be strolling minstrels, colourful jesters, archery, campfire cooking, traditional crafts and a tented encampment. This will launch a summer of events starting with a Meet the Restorers Day.

Come and meet the people behind the refurbishment from 11am to 4pm on Sunday, August 14. Contractors William Anelay will be on hand to demonstrate traditional crafts including lime plasterwork, carpentry, leadwork, gilding and historic brickwork.

The hall will be open fully to the public from August 2 and will also take part in Heritage Open Day.

Visitors will be able to see the hall for free from September 9 to September 11.

There will be twilight tours taking place on the Friday evening and self-guided tours throughout the rest of the weekend.

The hall will be in full bloom by September with a Fresh Flower Festival.

The historic rooms will be decorated as a Victorian House Party from September 22 to 25.

The festivities will continue into autumn with a Christmas Artisan Market making home in the walled garden from October 27.

Coun Butler added: “I’m also looking forward to the many exciting events this summer at Bramhall Hall and I’d encourage all residents to keep an eye out for future activities.”

From August the hall will be open on Tuesdays to Thursday and Sundays from 1pm to 5pm. It will ope from 1pm to 4pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

It is closed on Mondays. Tickets cost £10 and are available from the new Visitors Centre.

Details of all the events are available in the new Stockport Museums Exhibitions and Events Guide or online at www. stockport.gov.uk. museumscalendar.
