Mums group bring new life to South Park’s playground
A ONCE neglected park has been given a new lease of life thanks to a group of mums.
The Friends of South Park have managed to raise enough money to create a new children’s playground at South Park, in Cheadle.
Since the group formed two and a half years ago they have managed to collect more than £70,000.
The money has helped to complete phase one of the renovation – which was officially opened this month.
Natalie Hughes, chairman of the Friends group, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have completed phase one of the play area redevelopment.
“It was fantastic to see our local community showing their support at the fair.
“We’re hoping this will help South Park return to the community hub it once was.”
The new climbing frame was installed with the help of Stockport council.
It was officially launched with a family fun day.
Visitors were treated to a ride on the miniature train, bouncy castles, bungee trampolines and an inflatable adventure centre.
There was also a treasure hunt, face painting and a host of children’s stalls.
Natalie added: “I would like to thank our local councillors, the local businesses and schools for their continuous support and of course, the following organisations who have contributed to the redevelopment of the play area: The Foundation, Lloyds Bank Community Fund, ASDA Foundation, DM Thomas Foundation, Forever Manchester, Manchester Airport Trust Fund, Beedoo and of course WREN, our main funder whose £49,000 grant has made phase one possible.”
The group are now working to raise an extra £40k to regenerate the toddler’s play equipment.
