Champion Walters in classy show

IAN Walters, the Stockport Individual Premier League Champion, showed his class when he fired home tremendous darts of 17, 17, 15, 18 and 13 to take out Mick Cosgrove 5-0 in his opening game.

The Hyde hitman followed with more quality darts of 13, 15, 5, 16 and 17 to edge out Dave Adshead (16, 28, 16), who moved on to win his second game 5-0 against John Hyman in 15, 17, 17, 20 and 21.

Stinger Wray turned on the style to out smart Paul Taylor 5-2 in 18, 22, 20, 21 and 15 darts in his first game, Wray continued on his winning ways with a 5-0 straight leg victory over Dave Beckett in 19, 21, 22, 17 and 21.

Beckett improved in his last game when he reached his doubles in 20, 17, 24, 20 and 17 against Lee Taylor.

Alan Wilkinson earned maximum points on the night, the Leeds ace hit his doubles in 17, 17, 17, 17 and and 28 in his 5-1 victory over Buck Rogerson, before checking out in 24, 20, 16, 24 an 19 to beat John Hyman (24, 17).

Paul Holland (15, 20, 21, 19 and 15) surged forward to win his first encounter with Derek Higgins 5-1.

He then lost his final game 5-1 against Steve Rogers in 18, 19, 20, 20 and 20 darts.

Andy Smith was in superb form when he reached his doubles in 17, 25, 20, 18 and 19 darts to record a 5-2 result over Tom Booth, before shots of 24, 21, 24, 22 and 20 saw the Stockport star win 5-2 against Terry Harrison.

In the Stockport Super League, Bulls Head Marple despite top efforts from Graham Caraher (14, 19) and John Nolan (17, 22) crashed 5-2 against Midland Hotel, Derek Higgins (19, 17) Martin James (18, 19 and Paul Woods (24, 19) were their main winners.

Star and Garter A were narrow 4-3 winners over South West Manchester Cricket Club, with the best darts coming from Steve Atkinson (17, 18) Steve Skoeberne (18, 17) Dave Beckett (24, 22) and Steve Pritchard (23, 30).

Armoury B with the help of Mark McGeeny (17, 15) Danny Kay (25, 20) and Colin Mills (20, 27) won by the odd game 4-3 against six man Queens B, who had Bob Blakeley (18, 21 ) in fine form.

Union B cruised home 5-2 at Emigration, Nathan Aspinall (18, 15) was once again outstandin­g for the home side, leaving Darren Hart (18, 20) Paul Wrigley (22, 21) and Darren Edgerton (24, 29) as the Union B top winners.

Grapes Hazel Grove were comfortabl­e 5-2 victors at Queens A in the Premier A Division, Ryan Slate (22, 20) Kevin Sherlock (19, 29) and Vic Clegg (20, 29) were the target men for the visitors.

Gardeners Arms crushed the Grapes Heaton Norris 5-2, Luke Goalen (18, 26) Ryan Littler (24, 19) and Gareth Ward (20, 29) were the star players for the Offerton side.

Bredbury Conservati­ve Club A hit Woodley Cricket Club for six in the Bredbury Licensed Houses League, Mark Sands (22, 22) Andy Pollitt (24, 30) and Jay Mercer (23, 28) were their least darts.
