Fringe comedians to reveal cutting edge acts for free at Seven Miles Out

- THE PLAZA

COME and enjoy a regal and patriotic afternoon at The Plaza in the heart of Stockport on Thursday, July 28, at 2pm, as we celebrate in style Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th Birthday.

Join Neil Sands and his wonderful West End cast as they travel back over the 90 Glorious Years of her record-breaking reign, bringing back golden memories with songs made famous by many of her favourite singers and stars from her Royal Command performances.

From show tunes to the swinging sixties, a cockney knees-up to a flag-waving finale with a rousing section from Last Night of the Proms.

All of this mixed with wonderful voices, stunning costumes and lots of good oldfashioned fun, makes this the perfect nostalgic way to celebrate this historic occasion.

Tickets for this magnificent afternoon of entertainment for you, your friends or your group to enjoy can be booked in person at The Plaza on Mersey Square in Stockport, by calling our booking line on 0161 477 7779 or by visiting The Plaza web site on www.stockportplaza.co. uk Ted Doan

NK THEATRE ARTS

FRIDAY night we have a very special performance from the NK Theatre Arts Adult Access group.

This is a group of young adults who require extra support, but thrive though a love of performing arts.

The group will provide an evening of entertainment as they highlight the kind of work and activities that they have been undertaking on a weekly basis.

Jake Martin, who runs the class, said: ‘This is a great chance for all our Adult Access members to perform in front of their friends and family.

“As a group they achieve so much as they progress during the workshop sessions; it is a wonderful environment to explore themselves through performing arts and their confidence, ability and bond as a group grows each week.

“We have a very exciting year planning for the class once we return in September and would love to introduce the class to more likeminded young adults.

“If you know someone, who perhaps has learning difficulties or some kind of impairment but who love to perform then this really could be the class for them.

I would say coming to the event would be a great way of meeting the people involved and to see the work we do on a regular basis.

Why not come down and see what the class is all about!’

The session will start at 6pm, with donations for entry on the door. For further information about the Adult Access Class then contact jake@ nktheatrearts.org.uk or visit the website www. nkta.co.uk Darren Stannage

SEVEN MILES OUT

WE have had some highly memorable comedy events at Seven Miles Out with our popular series of Mojo Bravo Comedy Nights.

This Thursday, July 21, we’re delighted to host a preview of three up and coming shows by local comedians performing at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Join us from 7.30pm for a great night of comedy that’s completely free.

So what to expect? Tom Lawrinson and Lukas Kirkby are very excited to be joining professional actors Stephen Calhoun and Rahul St. Clements in their Harry Potter parody show Pottervision! Four fully grown men play elevenyear-old children as they recreate that first magical movie. We guarantee you a wizard time.

Tom Burgess (‘blankly sweet... coldly psychotic’ – Chortle) is Peter Fleming, the retired children’s television pioneer who staggers through a lively presentation of his legendary BBC programmes, occasionally trying to remember who he is and what he’s doing here.

Sam Nicoresti (‘very different and exciting’ – Forge Press) is Wilbur Bilb, a seven-year old private eye on the tail of his latest case through the red-light districts, moorlands and complex socio-political landscapes of the hardened streets of Birmingham. This sci-fi noir has overtones of Raymond Chandler and undertones of -20db and lower.

These new comic talents have been described as ‘extraordinary comics’ by the Manchester Evening News and ‘gleeful silliness’ by The Skinny and were the winners of ‘So You Think That’s Funny?’ on BBC Radio Wales. If you love stand-up comedy, arrive early so you can sit down!

Saturday, July 23, is a busy day for us. In the afternoon we will be taking part in the Stockport Carnival to launch August’s Stockport Old Town Fringe Festival with the help of the golden dragon, silver stag, copper unicorn and multi-coloured cows. Look out for our gazebo at Woodbank Park and pick up a Fringe Festival flyer for our event over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

From 1pm in Seven Miles Out you can enjoy the talented young musicians from STOMP - Stockport Music Project - who will be performing a set of classic songs. STOMP is organised by our great friend and supporter Kamey McNamara of Community Music who gives free music sessions to young people aged 11-16 years. If you are out shopping please pop in and give the young people your support, they will love an appreciative audience.

On Saturday evening we have the return of our monthly classic vinyl night ‘Sound and Vision’ with DJ The Vinyl Frontier. Seven Miles Out is transformed with a psychedelic light show and a vibe that has been likened to an ‘adult youth club disco’ with ‘re-cycled teens’ stepping back in time on the dance floor. If you love music from the 70s to the 90s this is the night for you. Lurex jumpsuit optional.
