Meet the finalists for top business person

THE Stockport Business Awards 2016 shortlist is out and it’s time to find out a little bit more about the nominees.

The awards, organised by local accountanc­y practice Clarke Nicklin, are now celebratin­g their fifth year and shortliste­d in the ‘Business Person of the Year’ category is; Carl Hampson (Allied Bakeries), Chris Appleyard (Pioneer Group) and Hayley Roberts (Distology).

The category is sponsored by Clarke Nicklin, who have been main sponsors since the awards began in 2012.

Carl Hampson is the general manager at Allied Bakeries in Stockport. Over the past five years he has directed tens of millions of pounds worth of investment into the Stockport plant and depot. Carl has also become a mentor within Allied Bakeries assisting those who take part in a Leadership Developmen­t Programme. Being a mentor allows each employee to learn from Carl’s wealth of knowledge and experience which he is always happy to share!

Chris Appleyard set up Pioneer Digital in 2011 with his business partner Paul Childerhou­se, and has since gone on to form other specialist companies making up the Pioneer Group. Chris has been pivotal in expanding the business this year through initiative­s that are making high end communicat­ion solutions more widely accessible to a greater scope of UK businesses.

This has been coupled with a passion for improving sustainabi­lity resulting in the iconic Etihad Stadium making the move to renewable energy based lighting fixtures throughout.

Hayley Roberts is the MD of Distology, an IT Security distributo­r based in Regent House. She has a track record of delivering growth and results in everything she has done. Distology has grown from two to nine people within a year, and turnover has increased six fold in the same time.

Distology’s expertise, experience and knowledge in the IT Security industry enables them to work with some of the world’s leading companies in the field.

The winner will be announced at the ceremony which takes place on October 13 at Stockport Town Hall.

The Stockport Business Awards is an event set up for businesses by businesses. It is organised by accountanc­y practice Clarke Nicklin, and headline sponsors are high profile businesses from the region; Gorvins Solicitors, Orbit Developmen­ts and NatWest.
