APAIR of students registered their dedication – by attending school for more than 1,300 consecutive days.

Sam Nicholl and Amber Hobson, both 18, have not missed a day’s lessons in seven years at Stockport Academy, in Cheadle Heath.

They have been rewarded for their commitment with an award at the school’s annual prize giving event.

Both joined Stockport Academy, on Heathbank Road, as year sevens in 2009 and have now completed their sixth form studies there.

Amber said: “Sam and I have been going to school together since primary and we had 100 per cent attendance there as well.

“We’ve had a few nearmisses and it’s been hard, but I’m so proud of making it all the way to seven years as it’s a very long time.”

Sam added: “I’m sure it will make a difference in the long run and not missing a day has helped me to do the best I can with my work.

“I would say to anyone in school to make the effort as it certainly pays off.”

The prize giving event took place at Stockport Plaza, in Mersey Square, and more than 300 students from the school received awards.

Among achievements that were also celebrated were attainment in individual subjects, charity work and efforts to tackle bullying.

Stockport Academy also donated £5,000 to three of its supported charities.

The Teenage Cancer Trust, Signpost Stockport Young Carers and Retrak all received money.

Students have spent the last 12 months holding dozens of fundraising events for these causes.

Another £1,000 was donated to sister school Central Academy in Carlisle to support families there after the winter floods.

The prize giving was attended by the Mayor of Stockport Councillor Chris Gordon and former head of Greater Manchester Police Sir Peter Fahy.

School years in England consist of between 190 and 200 days.

Frank McCarron, school principal, said: “We’ve celebrated some fantastic achievements once again at this year’s prize giving ceremony and the dedication of Sam and Amber over their seven years with us is truly inspirational.

“This event is one of the highlights of our calendar and it is a reflection of the strong ethos and drive we see every day throughout the academy.”
