The King returns to silver screen for a cinema classic

-

THE PLAZA

THIS Friday at 11am and 7.30pm, the late great Elvis Presley truly is in the room when he appears on the giant silver screen in the 1957 film release Jailhouse Rock (Cert. U).

Elvis stars as Vince Everett who is serving a one-year jail sentence for manslaughter. While in the big house, his cellmate, a former country singer, introduces him to the record business. Everett takes to it so well that he decides to become a singer when he gets out, however, he is quickly disillusioned by the record business. With the help of a new friend, he decides to form his own label and soon becomes an overnight sensation.

When Vince becomes a star, will his desire for fame and money cause him to forget the people who got him there?

Tickets for this sensational feature film starring the undisputed King of Rock’n’Roll on Friday, July 29, can be purchased in person from our Box Office here at The Plaza on Mersey Square in Stockport, by calling our booking on 0161 477 7779 or by visiting The Plaza web site on www. stockportplaza.co.uk.

NK THEATRE ARTS

THERE is still time to be a hero, or indeed a villain, as NK Theatre Arts summer theatre workshops kick off next week, welcoming anyone aged 5-17 years through the door of the Forum Theatre for some exciting ‘Heroes and Villains’ themed sessions.

Essentially this is a week of fantastic performing arts workshops, in music, dance and drama, which culminate in a performance on the Friday night for parents, friends and family. The sessions will be running daily from 10am-3pm and are the perfect way for children and young people to start their summer holidays and channel all that energy into having a fun time. As the theme is heroes and villains, it is also the chance for them to dress up and become their favourite character from a film or television, be it a Harry Potter character, a super hero or a Disney bad guy. It is not too late to book onto the week-long session; you can download an application form from our website www.nkta.co.uk and bring it with you on Monday, August 1, just before the start of the day!

If you have any enquiries, message us via our Facebook page @nktheatrearts, email dawn@nkta.co.uk or call 0161 430 6570 and speak to a member of the team.

SEVEN MILES OUT

IT’S that special time of the month again when the community of Stockport gather together in our beautiful Market Hall and Square to enjoy delicious street food from all around the world to the soundtrack of great local music.

Foodie Friday is putting a buzz back into the town centre with help from our sponsors Orbit Developments and Robinsons Brewery, two companies that are blazing a trail with their unstinting support for community events in the town centre.

We are delighted that three years after it was first launched by Stockport Council, Foodie Friday has been nominated for ‘Best Pop-Up’ by the prestigious Manchester Food and Drink Festival along with six other excellent Stockport venues including our good neighbours Bakers Vaults.

Credit for Foodie Friday’s success must go to our food guru Esther Morrison who has been involved since its inception and has worked very hard to establish great links with some of the best street food traders in the north west.

With the news that two exciting new restaurants will be opening their doors in Stockport Old Town very soon – Where The Light Gets In and The Allotment Vegan Restaurant – it seems that Stockport has ‘arrived’ when of course we all knew that it was ‘here’ all along.

This Friday we have another great line-up of local musical talent including Miss Jenem, James Barratt and his band, The Belle Vue Dogs and The Basics performing outside in the Market Square from 6.15pm.

All the performers will play a second set inside Seven Miles Out, where we will also have acoustic performances from Arisha-Jane Marsh and Don’t Fret.

If you haven’t yet been to a Foodie Friday, bring your friends, bring your family and join us in Stockport Market for a special night out in the town centre.
