Womens’ event is proving so popular

THE ladies took centre stage at West Heaton Bowling and Tennis Club in Heaton Moor on Sunday.

Sponsored by Country Garden Roses, the first heats of qualifying saw the likes of Katrina Earl, Meliza Herbert and Karen Galvin progress into the finals. Local hopes were given a boost when Danielle Miller and Jackie Gloag both reached the final day.

Due to the popularity of the event an additional qualifier will now take place on Sunday, August 7. Anyone interested should call Jimmy Parker on 07748 491 913.

West Heaton has numerous events coming up and remains one of Stockport’s hidden gems.

The bowling green is getting better by the year and it’s a fantastic set up.

There is also a one-day star-studded men’s event on August 21, sponsored by Osprey.

This Saturday the opening Grange Classic takes place at Edgeley Road. Play gets underway at 6.15pm. The following players will be in action the draw is available by programme on entry for £1 on the night. In the Brunner Cup on Saturday Houldswort­h stunned Lloyds in the semi-finals. The match, played at Winnignton Park in Northwich, turned on two cards for the Reddish men. Colin Price rolled back the years to win 21-7 and was followed off by Damien Morrison 21-12.

On a busy weekend the final of The Frank Beeley Trophy took place at Lemaington Road. Graeme Wilson saw off Gary Ellis in the semi-final then sealed the title in style.
