Neil’s ace shot out of the Blue

MELLOR and Towsncliff­e Past Captain and company secretary Neil Clark enjoyed the Vice Captain’s competitio­n as he notched an ace on the Quarry Hole – the 103yard par three.

The diehard Manchester City fan was so overcome by his success that somehow he was persuaded to wear club photograph­er Colin Hughes’ red sweater to pose for the picture.

After Neil had recovered from the double shock he said: “I will wear it as it goes with my black trousers – City’s away strip!”

The George Booth Stableford at M and T produced some impressive scores led in by Scott Jackson with 43 points from Michael Roberts, 41, and Ben Senogles, Paul Wilkinson, Mark Curtis and Simon Wallworth, all 40.

A Junior Open at M and T saw home star Ben Jackson win with a superb 64 seein g him five shots clear of the field.

M and T ladies were also busy in two competitio­ns with a singles Stableford being won by Carys Baggs with 33 points, two more than Lesley Howarth and Anne Verity.

In an EWGA medal Susan Morrison was top of the shop with 72.

The President’s Day for juniors at Bramhall was won by Joel Walsh with 35 points, one more than Ross Clewley.

A Thursday qualifier at Bramhall saw Cheshire legend Gareth Bradley show his class with the +2 handicappe­r posting 39 points to finish three clear of Dave Gavin, Nick Longworth and Robert Macfarlane.

The nine-hole subsidiary was led in by Alan Smith with 20 points from Paul Adams 18.

Bramhall ladies played their MDLGA Bunty Booth qualifier and top of the four divisions were Gill Ridley-Fink 38 points, Brenda Bruce 36, Kate Sumner after a cpo on 35 with Melanie Williams and Alison Thornley, 31.

It was close at Bramall Park in the medal for the Captain’s Prize with Chris Bagnall winning a cpo on 68 from John Keenan with Jonathan Hudson, Gary Rowson, Andy Buckels and Paul Holt all just a shot off the pace.

Park’s ladies played a Captain’s Prize Stableford with Pat Tooze leading in with 35 points, two more than Maria Bailey, Bridget Jones and Judy Read.

A Mixed and Academy Stableford at Bramall Park had David Gregory in firm control with 40 points, well clear of Andy Curwen, 35, and Alan Reid, 34.

A midweek Stableford at Marple was won in style by Simon Tunnacliff­e with 41 points, well clear of Sid Hodkinson, 37, and Jon Bintiff, 36.

A Par competitio­n at Marple for the coveted Laird Cup had division one led in by Jeff Atkinson on +4 from Simon Tunnacliff­e, +3, and in division tow Richard Newton posted level par to finish ahead of Paul Thorley, -3.

Marple juniors were also in par mode with Jamie Oldfield winning with an impressive +4 from James Owens, +3.

A medal for Marple ladies was won by Linda Rogers after a cpo on 77 with Glenda Conway, one less than Elaine Nadin.

A pro’s prize for Reddish Vale ladies was won in style by Mal Woodcock with 38 points.

Wednesday medal play for Vale’s men had the divisions led in by Paul Sloane ,68, Chris Connolly, 70, and Darren Bourne, 68.

Curtis Brokenbrow is enjoying his break for his studies in the US and he made his mark in round one of the Jubilee Cup at Vale winning a cpo on 68 from Martin Holt with David Hamilton and Rhys Owen a shot off the pace.

The President’s Day for Juniors at Stockport was won with 39 points by Zac Smith, one more than Nathan Atkinson.

The fourth Summer medal at Stockport had Peter Roche toping division one with 70 by a shot from Andy Gee. In division two it was closer as Ian Crabtree won a cpo on 72 from Jeremy Farnworth and Neil Russell.

The President’s Day for ladies at Stockport also needed a cpo on 35 points to see Glynis Hodgson first past the post from Laura Murison with Linda Bolt also in the frame with 33.

Fraser McLeod showed his class at Hazel Grove in the Wednesday section competitio­n for the Jack Kendall prize as the +4 handicappe­r posted a massive 39 points to finish three clear of Ainsley Morris.

Medal play at Grove saw Glyn Chorlton lead in with 67 from Robert Cain, 69, and Andrew Hill, Luke Elwers and Daniel Keep, all 70.

Grove ladies enjoyed Lady Captain’s Day and none more than Kathryn Glazier who cruised to victory with 71, five clear of Hilary Hill and June Dawson.

The third and final round of the Seniors Trophy at Houldswort­h was won by Paul Gamban with 72 from Roy Moores, 73, and M Draycott and J Dorsi, both 74.

It was a tight contest for Houldswort­h Wednesday players in the competitio­n for the Cavanagh Trophy with George Henry winning a cpo on 38 points from L Crompton.

In the Oldham and District Rabbits League Houldswort­h took a commanding lead in the Group B Cup table with a 6-4 win over Stamford to move to eight points clear.

League action saw Brookdale take command at the top of the table with a 6-2 triumph over Dukinfield.

The draws have been made for round three in three of the top Manchester Alliance Inter Club Knock outs- the biggest of their kind in the country.

The City Glass Men’s Foursomes (holders Helsby) sees the clubs battle to reach the quarter-finals and the draw is:
