Use it or lose it – our historic markets still need your custom
THIS is to all the loyal Stopfordians who supported our market traders when they were struggling to keep our historic market open.
I was told by them that 6,000 people signed their petitions, which was really an amazing effort.
They still need your support by shopping there – at the market hall and outdoor market.
They are still struggling and I hope that some of the 6,000 people will visit our market and market hall on one of the opening days – Tuesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday.
Stockport would not be the same without our historic market. They can’t keep going without customers.
You might be like me in that your mum or grandma used to take you there, so it’s good to keep up a family tradition. If you don’t climb hills we have a frequent metro shuttle or a lift at TK Maxx. Please give them a visit. Thank you. Mrs Irene Cuss Bredbury
WE NEED CARE AND RESPECT
IN my lifetime I have never known a time when politicians and others in the media have sunk so low to suit their own selfish ends.
In a time of great uncertainty they have fed on the fears of many to incite racial hatred and bigotry. It is reminiscent of the fear tactics of the 1920s and 1930s in Germany where a minority were targeted.
A rhetoric of blaming and demonising minority groups has incited hate crimes and divided our society.
The journalists, politicians, media moguls and people in the public eye who incite others are the real problem in our society.
The vast majority of the population want to get on with their lives in a decent way. Most of us just want to get on with our neighbours.
We need to care and respect each other and not be influenced by the self-seeking dross in politics, the media and from self-acclaimed celebrities. Tony Kennedy Address supplied
SIGNS TO ‘GHOST CAR PARKS’
AS a lifelong Portwoodian, I can confirm that parking-law enforcement in Portwood in the town centre is nonexistent by the council and police.
When entering the town centre, drivers are directed to several car parks.
The problem is that FOUR of them do not exist and never have done. They are Water St/Warren St/Millgate Bridge and Millgate.
And the clincher is there are still signs pointing to ‘Shopping Area (Central)’ which at the moment is a building site for the new, soon to become 2017’s ‘White Elephant,’ known as Redrock.
All visitors take note, unless you like magical mystery tours of course.
Come on Stockport council, shape up. Terence W Wolfe Stockport
