Child vandals in car door mirror rampage

-

CHILDREN thought to be as young as 11 rampaged down a residential street stealing door mirrors from parked cars.

Up to 12 vehicles were targeted on Sherborne Road, in Cheadle Heath, and the surrounding streets in the early hours of Thursday.

Three instances were reported to police but officers believe there were more and residents say there were nine cars hit on Sherbourne with more on Heathside Road.

Among the victims was mum-of-two Katie Bradshaw, 24, who had both stolen from her Vauxhall Corsa.

The self-employed cleaner was unable to travel to work the next day, and says she lost a big contract meaning she is effectively now unemployed.

The gang of three only stopped when the noise woke other residents and one confronted them, causing the trio to run off.

Katie, who lives with her son and daughter aged three and five, said: “I’m fuming, it is disgusting, they don’t realise the consequences of what they are doing now I don’t have a job.

“You could see them walking to cars and then there was a crack and a bang as they used a screwdriver to get the mirrors.

“They were aged 11 to 13 and walking down the have examined the cars for clues.

Other cars targeted were a Ford Fiesta and a Renault Megane. It happened between 4am and 4.30am.

Inspector Neil Cook, from the west area neighbourhood police, has appealed for witnesses.

He said: “This is just mindless vandalism that causes a nuisance and inconvenience to our local residents.

“We suspect we know the people responsible but without someone coming forward these offences are likely to go unpunished.

“There will be concerned members of the community who know who is responsible for these and other offences and I would urge them to contact us.”
