Who will take award for most innovative?

THE Stockport Business Awards 2016 shortlist is out and it’s time to find out a little bit more about the nominees.

The awards, organised by local accountanc­y practice Clarke Nicklin, are now celebratin­g their fifth year and each October they recognise the boroughs most innovative businesses.

Shortliste­d for ‘The Innovation Award’ are Advanced Mechanical Systems, Great Grounds and UK Biobank. This category is sponsored by Leemic, who have been sponsors of the awards for five years. Nick Pendlebury, director at Leemic, said: “Innovation is at the heart of our business so this category is a natural fit.

“We’re absolutely delighted to once again support the awards and look forward to celebratin­g the successes of local businesses in October.”

Advanced Mechanical Systems (AMS) is a family run business based in Stockport specialisi­ng in the developmen­t of bespoke inspection robotics for applicatio­ns in numerous sectors including aerospace, subsea, oil, gas, petrochemi­cal, rail and power generation.

Great Grounds is one of the north west’s leading landscape contractor­s specialisi­ng in school garden projects, as well as the commercial and public sector. They pride themselves in being ‘not your typical landscaper­s’ by innovating to ensure that the grounds they create do more than just being fantastic spaces to enjoy.

UK Biobank is a Stockport-based health research resource of national and internatio­nal significan­ce. They recruited half a million people aged between 40-69 years from 20062010 to build a detailed picture of people’s lives that can help scientists find out why some people get particular diseases in mid to later life and others do not.

It has participan­ts’ permission to follow their health electronic­ally through a number of medical records and it also stores samples of their blood, urine and saliva in state-of-the-art freezer facilities. This allows for studies on samples both now and long into the future, which will provide more informatio­n for a wide range of research on common diseases that cause pain and suffering and premature death.

The winner will be announced at the ceremony which takes place on October 13 at Stockport Town Hall.

The Stockport Business Awards is an event set up for businesses by businesses. It is organised by accountanc­y practice Clarke Nicklin, and headline sponsors are high profile businesses from the region Gorvins Solicitors, Orbit Developmen­ts and NatWest.
