Charity’s offering blooms with new flower classes

-

A CHARITY can run weekly creative classes thanks to a generous grant.

Carers of Dementia Sufferers and Bereavement have organised flower arranging and pot painting sessions at the Davenport Hotel, on Buxton Road, Davenport.

They can take place after the charity received £750 from Life Leisure’s David Hopkins Foundation.

The charity was founded by Linda Storan 12 months ago after her husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2007.

Linda made the decision she wanted to try and provide her husband with the best possible care.

But she realised that she was becoming more alone and isolated while there were other people out there in the same situation.

So with help from her grandson Ben Linda set up the group.

It meets every Wednesday to enjoy activities including day trips, excursions and craft sessions.

Linda said: “I would like to thank the David Hopkins Foundation personally for their generous and kind donation.

“We welcome anyone who feels this charity could enhance their lives and it’s a great opportunity to make new friends with like-minded people, so just drop in to one of our sessions and see what we are all about.”

Adelle Izzard, a member of the David Hopkins Foundation panel, added: “We are so pleased to be able to help this small but worthy local charity and to enable members to include additional activities for local carers.

“Caring for a sick relative can be very difficult and being able to help provide some respite for local carers is just fantastic.”

The foundation offers grants up to £500 for individuals in Stockport and £1,000 for clubs based in the borough.
