A ROMILEY Golfer is once step closer to her dream of winning the World Long Drive Championship.
Deb Kershaw got through to the final of the American Golf Long Drive Championship – the UK qualifying event for the world title.
She had previously qualified for the regional finals of the nationwide Long Driver Championship with victory at the first round event held at her local American Golf Store.
Along with the regional title,Deb received a Garmin GPS watch from the championship sponsor along with entry to the finals which will be held at a High Legh Park, Cheshire on Friday, August 19.
Daniel Gathercole, director of marketing and communications at American Golf said: “We have had more than 1,000 people taking part in the Long Drive Championship for the second year running and the standard has been incredible.
“Deb produced a fantastic display of power hitting that was enough to secure the regional title in a ladies category.”
“We were the first long drive event that Rebecca McGinley our ladies champion from last year ever took part in and she has gone on to be the third best in the world.
“Having seen the talent which is on display this year we are really excited to see if anyone can match or even better Rebecca’s achievements.”
The winner of each category in the tournament - open, senior and ladies, will go on to the 2017 World Golf Drive Championship in Oklahoma where they will represent American Golf and Garmin.
The event is free to attend and spectators will be out in force to make it a day to remember.
Entry to all the American Golf Championships including the American Golf Long Drive, 9 Hole, Junior, Ladies and Senior Championships is free and is part of the retailer’s drive to promote the sport.
