Hornby gets back on track

- MOTOR SPORT MIKE PETCH

TOTALLY Motorsport’s Junior Academy driver Kyle Hornby, from Stockport, had a much better weekend at Snetterton in his JHR Motorsport Ginetta Junior.

After enduring so many car issues and problems for most of the season it was refreshing to see Kyle back on the pace again, securing sixth and fifth places in the Simpson Race Products Ginetta Junior Championship double header.

Although gremlins set in again for qualifying on Saturday morning with a broken propshaft, Kyle managed to secure 13th position after only a handful of laps at the Norfolk circuit.

Hornby made a fabulous start in Race 1, taking five places by the first corner, Riches, and was soon hunting down the others in his REIS Motorsport Insurance backed Ginetta. With the Snetterton 300 circuit being so long and a race duration of only seven laps, Kyle had his work cut out. By lap six Hornby was fighting for eighth position and at Agostini he saw his opportunity and dived down the inside not only taking one but two cars to elevate himself to a credible sixth place which he held to the flag.

His Race 1 result [6th] translated in to his start position in Race 2, and another good start saw him move up the field, it wasn’t long before the charging Hornby was fighting for second. By lap two Kyle was in second but leader Harper decided to attempt to end Kyle’s charge by forcing him wide. His car was still good though and it wasn’t long before Hornby was fighting again with the leading pack and finished fifth with Harper later being penalised by the stewards for his over ambitious move on Kyle.

“The frustration of being fired off by anyone when you’re in that position is frustrating to say the least!” he said.

The Ginetta Junior Series is next in action at Knockhill in Scotland on the 13th and 14th August.
