Compstall blown away by Green

THERE were runs and wickets, thrilling finishes and one sided victories as the Intersport Monkhouse Derbyshire & Cheshire Cricket League continued under the clouds of summer

In Division 1, Hawk Green batted first at Compstall making 256-6, Josh Hampson scoring 83, Jack Needham 31, Paul Needham 39 and J Henderson unbeaten on 73 as F Heginbotha­m took 3-73.

The Compstall batsmen had no answer to the bowling of Ryan Stringer (3-14) or Jason Downey (4-31) as they were bowled out for 68.

New Mills batted first at home to Whaley Bridge, Mark Birchenall top scoring with 36 as they were all out for 131, Dale Jones taking 6-36 and L Jones 3-18.

Luke Scofield then led the chase with 30 but Birchenall took 6-31 and D Holmes 4-26 to see the visitors bowled out 2 runs short of victory.

Birch Vale chose to bat at home to promotion chasing Hazel Grove in Division Two, Tom McIlvenney hitting 65 in a total of 160 all out, Dom Nunn taking 4-36, Ian Halford 3-17 and Joe Hall 3-51.

Nick Hayward continued his run of form with 46 but J Bannister took 6-88 and L Anthony 4-56 to see Grove fall 7 runs short on 153 all out.

Chapel hosted Hollingwor­th and were all out for 104, Keith Hallam hitting 30 as R Hoskins took 3-25 and S Morris 4-10. L Belfield then hit an unbeaten 54 as Hollingwor­th cruised to 105-2.

Offerton, however, could not support T Thelwell whose 48 was not enough, the home side all out for 74 thanks to 5-35 from J Cragg and 3-22 from A Grant. High Lane chose to bat at league leaders Woodley posting 136-9, Paul Turner taking 3-38.

Turner then hit 50 in the Woodley reply but Tyler Eiselt took 5-56 to reduce the home side to 106 all out, inflicting their first league defeat of 2016.

Woodley batted first at Dove Holes in Division Thre having lost the toss and hit 270-9, J Duggan with 133 and P Pannett 35 while K Collins took 3-42.

Hawk Green scored a massive 322-3 at home to Charleswor­th, Craig Young (144) Luke Young 36, J Blackhurst (65 not out) and L Jeffs (57 not out) all scoring heavily. Charleswor­th then collapsed to 64 all out, George Ridings taking 4-14 and Mark Richards 3-18.

Hayfield were all out for 193 batting first at home to New Mills, G Wood with 49 and Dave Aldridge 31 as J Henderson took 3-38 and A Boardman 3-32.

In reply New Mills were 195-5 thanks to A Stevens with 70, A Boardman 35 and James Stevens with 31.

In Division Four, Hazel Grove batted first at home to Birch Vale and found Chris Cooke in imperious form as he finished 94 not out, Cameron Forsythe supporting with 42 as W Hall took 7-46. K Hyde hit 53 in the Birch reply but Mike Burnard took 3-15 to help Hazel Grove bowl the visitors out for 121.

High Lane smashed 249-4 declared off just 33 overs, N Sheikh with an unbeaten 80, S Jhalifa 78 not out and R Hussein 32. Buxworth’s team, decimated by the Y Not Festival, were then all out for just 26.

Mottram posted 225-8 as they hosted Offerton, S O’Mara with 39, Sam Fazackerle­y 36 and M Fazackerle­y 32 while M Shah took 3-57 and L Gaskell 3-56. Offerton were then all out for 154 in their reply despite 42 from I Soleil, S Scott taking 4-15.

Stalybridg­e were asked to bat by visitors Compstall and hit 238-7, M Whitworth with 51, A Wilde 31 and Joe Robinson 73 as James Chew took 3-51. Compstall could muster just 27 in reply as M Bashir took 4-16 and P Coxon 4-11
