AGANG of chainsawwielding robbers smashed a car into the front of a bank before storming in during a brazen 9am raid.

The men – all wearing ski masks – ran into Lloyds bank on High Street in Cheadle and tried to cut through a door inside.

Video footage captured two cars pulling up outside the bank during the raid which happened shortly after 9.15am on Friday.

A woman eyewitness is heard screaming in terror as she spots one offender carrying a ‘saw.’

Another woman shouted: “Oh my God, he’s got a saw,” before the footage captured a masked raider throw something which appears to be on fire at one of the cars.

Another short clip then shows one of the cars which has been used by the gang to ram the bank on fire.

According to witnesses a Range Rover pulled up outside the bank at around 9am on Friday morning.

Shortly afterwards another car sped down the road and rammed into the front of the bank.

It reversed and smashed into the bank a second time before two men got out of the vehicle wearing skimasks and dark clothing.

An eye-witness said they were carrying chainsaws and a metal bar.

The men went inside the bank and when they left the building ripped the numberplate off the black car.

One man then set light to the car and jumped into the Range Rover waiting outside the bank.

It is understood the Range Rover was also torched nearby under a railway bridge.

Amanda Arthurs, 39, who watched the incident from a cafe opposite, said: “It was a bit scary. I was sitting in the cafe across the road and we heard a loud bang.

“This car drove into the front of Lloyds and rammed into it. It reversed and did it again.

“One had a chainshaw or something menacing and they ran into the branch and out again four minutes later.

“One of the guys punched the air when he came out in celebration.

“He pulled a number plate off the car and set it on fire.”

Inspector David Fulton, of GMP’s Stockport borough, said: “It has left staff members completely terrified when they were just starting work for the day.

“It is fortunate that nobody was harmed.

“We would urge anybody who was there and can help us with our investigation to come forward.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 506 or 29/07/16, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
