Stockport Express

Collect tokens for share of charity cash pot

-

THIS week we publish the first token in this year’s Vernon Jubilee Fund - so you can get collecting for your favourite cause.

The Express will be printing the tokens over the next five weeks, and the more a charity or organisation receives, the greater their share of the £10,000 funding pot will be.

If you haven’t decided who to support yet, here is a handy guide to the 20 groups that have been shortlisted for the Jubilee Fund 2016:

●●BEACON Counselling

Beacon counselling builds resilience in children, young people and adults experiencing mental and emotional distress. We do this by providing one to one counselling, group programmes and through targeted community projects across Stockport. We support over 1,500 people each year, 600 of which are young people.

The Jubilee Fund would support Beacon’s project Liberty. Liberty provides short and long-term therapeutic support for victims of Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and those at risk of becoming victims.

Working throughout Stockport, we help people who are older, disabled or disadvantaged to come together to develop their digital skills, improve social isolation and strengthen their own communities.

Some of our learners have difficulties with hearing or sight or have restricted hand movement. We would use funding to provide appropriate or specialist equipment such as larger tablet computers, mice, keyboards and headphones. Practically it offers safety, a hot meal, access to information and advice and help with skill development. More importantly it connects those who would otherwise be isolated, allowing them peer and local community support.
