Boy’s bid for world wave

-

A TEENAGER has launched an ambitious school project to get a wave from someone in EVERY country in the world.

Oliver Mottram is hoping a kind-hearted social media user from every country across the globe will send him a picture or video of them greeting him.

It’s all part of his ‘Wave from the World’ project, which aims to demonstrate how social media has brought people from across the planet together like never before.

The 14-year-old from Sale, who attends Cheadle Hulme School, has set up a Twitter page to document his progress and to get in touch with those in far-flung countries the world over.

He’s already had pictures from people in 40 countries, but has a long way to go to tick off every single nation.

The United Nations recognises 193 sovereign states across the globe.

Oliver has already had waves from countries including Rwanda, Azerbaijan, South Africa, Angola, China, Brazil and Uganda.

He’s had school children saying ‘hello’ from Guatemala and Haiti; Syrian refugees smiling and waving from Turkey; and people posing from Peru for his project.

Bosses at the Humanity First International project have spotted Oliver’s social media mission and have set about helping him.

He’s even thinking of raising money for some of the children who the charity have snapped to thank them for their efforts.

The bright youngster said: “When we were told to come up with a summer project, I started thinking about how I use social media - and how I can talk to someone on the other side of the world so easily.

“I’d never speak to these people usually.

“But social media has brought people closer together.

“I’m pretty sure I can get a wave from every country in the world - I’ve already reached 40. “I’m doing well.” Oliver is hoping a retweet - or a wave - from a famous name will help him complete his quest.
