Search is on for the employer of the year
THE Stockport Business Awards 2016 shortlist is out and it’s time to find out a little bit more about the nominees.
The awards, organised by local accountancy practice Clarke Nicklin, are now celebrating their fifth year and each October they recognise the borough’s best businesses.
The Employer of the Year category recognises the best employers in the area and was won last year by Rowlinson Knitwear, which has recently become an employeeowned business. This year Rowlinson are sponsoring the award, and the shortlisted companies are Life Leisure, SAS Daniels and Together.
Life Leisure is the trading name of Stockport Sports Trust and is a not for profit registered charity. Their vision and mission revolve around improving the lives of the people in the local area. Life Leisure is a major employer in Stockport with approximately 500 on payroll between the ages of 16 to 81. Within the Life Leisure family 20 per cent of people have 10 or more years’ service and 50 per cent of the management team have been promoted into their current roles throughout their time with the company.
SAS Daniels LLP is one of the leading professional legal and business advisers in the north west. In December 2015 the firm was awarded Investors in People Gold standard. This award is only given to the top 7 per cent of accredited organisations across the UK and is a major achievement. This year SAS Daniels has established an Employee Forum in which all employees are encouraged to put forward ideas on areas to improve the business.
Together provides individually underwritten secured loans and mortgages for retail and commercial purposes. Over the years their services have diversified and their portfolio of brands expanded to reflect increasingly competitive markets and customers’ changing needs. They’ve created more than 125 new jobs in the past twelve months but still over a third of employees have been with them for five years or more.
The winner will be announced at the ceremony which takes place on October 13 at Stockport Town Hall. »●The Stockport Business Awards is an event set up for businesses by businesses.
