Marathon man still on the run

-

A ONE-MAN running machine is about to tackle the last - and longest - leg of his astonishing charity challenge.

Jonathan Mather, 43, from Edgeley, will begin the Ultra Great Britain on August 20, a 200 mile coast to coast run from Southport to Hornsea.

He has already completed three other stamina tests this year - the shortest of which was a 47-mile run along the Trans Pennine Trail from Liverpool to Manchester.

The others were 69 miles along Hadrian’s Wall and then the 100-mile Grim Reaper.

Jonathan, a sheet metal worker who grew up in Brinnington, is aiming to raise at least £500 for Francis House Hospice and is currently at £300.

And though the demanding schedule is taking its toll oh his body, he is determined

“So every event so far I’ve carried an injury and haven’t been able to train or perform as well as I would have liked.

“I am determined to carry on regardless. Some friends and family are hoping to cheer me on as I pass through Stockport which will give me a real buzz.

“The brave children who attend Francis House Hospice, whose day to day lives can be a struggle, fight on and always do it with positivity and a smile.

“If my struggling on the runs could help make the lives of these children a bit better, then it would all be worth it.”
