Eve Kershaw, seven, from St Peters RC Primary School in Hazel Grove was one of more than 100 primary school children from across Stockport to take part in the contest run by Solutions SK and Stockport County Community Foundation.

Eve’s Menu included baked chicken with mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables and gluten-free gravy, tomato and vegetable pasta served with a wholemeal bread roll and a salad buffet.

For desert she offered home-made tropical fruit salad, fruity flapjacks and low-fat yoghurts.

Children were asked why their menu should win, and Eve told the judges: “My menu contains carbohydrates, protein, vegetables and fruit, all of which give you energy and include all of your recommended five a day.

“None of my menu has been fried and it is all homemade. I should win because this is a very healthy menu that my friends and I would love and enjoy during school dinner.”

A school spokesman said “We are absolutely delighted that one of our children has won the school menu competition.
