Fundraising success for life-saving defibrillators
A WOODLEY woman’s mission to bring defibrillators to the area has taken a big step forward with £3,800 raised so far.
Emma Porter has organised a number of fundraising events and the cash raised so far will be able to fund two defibrillators – one in Woodley and another in Romiley.
One recent event was a sponsored walk which was supported by around 50 people which raised £1,300 towards the cause.
Another was held at Woodley Primary School’s summer fair which made £100 on the day.
Emma said: “Romiley school did a non-uniform day for me which made £662 and it’s lovely to get community support.
“A local baby group Prampushers also did a bacon butty morning on two days recently and asked for a donation which raised £435 towards the defibrillators – I am so grateful they believed in me and helped me raise money.”
A family fun day has also been organised at the White Hart pub which is being held on Saturday, August 20.
This will be from noon to 4pm and entry is free.
There will be a barbecue, face painting, bouncy castle, tombola, raffle as well as a children’s entertainer.
There are around 60,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests in the UK every year and when someone has one, every minute without CPR reduces their survival chances by somewhere between seven and 10 per cent.
But if a defibrillator is used and effective CPR performed within three to five minutes of a cardiac arrest, the chances of survival increase from six per cent to 74 per cent.
Emma is also looking for people to complete a sponsored event to raise money for the cause.
