Close shave raises more than £1,100 for Christie
A GOLF club’s fun day and a daring waxing feat have raised more than £1,100 for The Christie.
Golfer Scott Beale, 44, had his chest waxed to help raise money for the hospital, at Houldsworth Golf Club in Reddish, which also hosted a fundraising evening later in the day.
Money raised through both events, as well as donations made by golfers who took part in a competition, is still being counted up, but the total is expected to reach £1,200 - all of which will go to The Christie.
The charity is particularly close to Scott’s heart, as he has lost several friends and family members to cancer.
His mum, Nora Beale has also battled lung cancer, but is fortunately now in remission from the disease.
Club members were happy to support Scott’s fundraising, especially when they had the chance to have a go at waxing his chest themselves.
Scott said: “I would like to say a massive thank you to Sadie from Hazel Grove Beauty Clinic for volunteering her services, along with her mum Nickie. They were great at helping increase the donations by getting club members to wax me for money. They were absolute stars and without them, we wouldn’t have been able to do it.
“The first few strips didn’t hurt too much, but certain bits were absolute agony. I told them to line up the whisky just in case.
“The air turned blue, but it was all worth it for such a good cause.
“I would also like to thank everyone that sponsored and donated gifts and money, including Stockport County FC, the Manchester United foundation, the Green Sports Bar, family, friends and club members”.
Scott later went on to have his head shaved, to complete his charity challenge.
He added: “I feel a wee bit cold now”.
