ACHEADLE cyclist is joining a Coronation Street star on a London to Paris bike ride for a cancer charity.

Tom Allen, 24, is joining Sally Dynevor - who plays Sally Metcalfe in the ITV soap - on the impressive 230 mile challenge.

All the funds from the ride, which takes place from Wednesday, September 21 to Sunday, September 25, will be donated to Prevent Breast Cancer, which is dedicated to the prediction and prevention of the disease.

Tom, who works for the charity, is cycling along with Sally in memory of the late actress Morag Siller, who was an avid supporter and patron of the charity following her diagnosis of the disease. Sadly, Morag lost her battle in April this year.

Tom, who is also a former world class development athlete, said: “When the opportunity arose to take part, I immediately knew it was a challenge I wanted to take on. Not only will it be a physical achievement to be proud of, but it will result in lots of money being raised for Prevent Breast Cancer, which for me is not just an employer but a cause I back 100 per cent.”

Starting in London, the five-day route incorporates the British countryside en route to the ferry from Dover to Calais and, once on French soil, winds along quiet country lanes and through traditional market towns.

Sally added: “Prevent Breast Cancer has been very close to my heart for many years now and is an immensely worthwhile cause. It’s also the perfect way to remember my dear friend Morag, and raise funds for a charity we shared a passion for.

“I’m in the middle of training and it’s definitely not easy, but it will all be worth it once we’ve reached the finish line at the Eiffel Tower and raised vital funds to protect future generations.”

The charity’s executive director Nikki Barraclough said: “Tom is a tremendously valued member of the team and Sally one of our most treasured supporters. We’re thrilled they’re joining us for London 2 Paris in memory of the wonderful Morag Siller. Prevent Breast Cancer relies solely on donations, so support like this is essential. We’re looking forward to getting on our bikes and travelling ever closer to our aim of a breast cancer-free world.”
