PURE 107.8FM

- PAUL HOLLOWAY

●●IT’S been a week of celebration at Pure 107.8FM. Yesterday (Tuesday, September 13) was Stockport’s Radio Station’s 10th birthday as presenter Paul Holloway reflects…

Thanks to everybody who got involved in our birthday celebrations at Pure 107.8FM. It was a great opportunity to look back on some of our highlights and achievements over the last 10 years.

The live outside broadcast when the Olympic torch passed through Stockport was one of my highlights. The London 2012 press office had kept it secret that Keith Lemon was one of the torch bearers.

Although it was exciting interviewing a surprise celebrity; the best part of the day was telling the stories of the everyday local people who had been chosen to carry the flame for doing remarkable things in the community.

The homecoming event for Stockport’s athletes from both the Olympics and Paralympics Games at the Town Hall was another great day.

Then there are all the local bands who’ve gained their first exposure on Pure. It was great to talk to Blossom’s Tom Ogden on our birthday. Three members of the chart-topping band including Tom had their first radio play in their previous teenage bands here on Pure.

And in 10 seasons broadcasting exclusive full match commentary of Stockport County there have been plenty of highs and lows. The Play Off Final victory at Wembley and open top bus tour through the town in 2008 were magic moments.

Unfortunately there has been a fair share of heartache for County fans in the last decade too. But Pure has always been there through thick and thin.

But for me our proudest achievement has got to be developing One Voice, our project for people with learning disabilities and autism. The progress the team continues to make is remarkable with a lot of support and encourage from the dedicated team of support workers from our parent charity Pure Innovations.

The first 10 years have been great – here is to the next decade.
