Dust off your hymn sheets and join community choir

-

A COMMUNITY choir is hoping to recruit new members as they launch the new season.

Cheshire Community Choir is now in its sixth year in Bramhall and fifth year in Heald Green.

Since it was formed in Bramhall similar choirs have sprung up in Heald Green, Knutsford, Alderley Edge and Wilmslow.

All the choirs, which meet in methodist churches, learn the same songs so members can come together for events as one big choir.

Director Kate Firth said: “Choir singing has never been more popular than it is today.

“It’s a great way to unleash your hidden talents and display them to the world through music.

“Singing as part of a small community gives people a sense of belonging and transports them into a different world where the pressures of everyday life can be forgotten for a while.

“Choir members are taught how to control breathing, project the voice, enunciate clearly and improve their posture and physical presence.

“Using breathing techniques and vocal exercises, we help all members control their nerves and find their voice.”

Singing has been medically proven to slow heart rate, lower blood pressure, reduce stress and create natural highs.

The choirs meet during the day and there are no auditions to join the fun.

No singing experience is necessary.
