APAIR of petrol heads have been driving across Europe in a bid to raise money for charity.

Paul Kehoe and fellow BNI business group member Jay Rooney are taking on the 2,500 mile Screwball Rally in aid of the Together Trust.

The duo bought a 1999 BMW E38 for £750 to complete the route through France, Germany and the Czech Republic with around 100 other vehicles.

Phil, managing director of DSG Auto Contracts, said: “The cars have to cost no more than £750 so some of them won’t even get to Dover.

“Our car is in a really good condition and we’ve prepared well.

“This will give us the chance to see parts of Europe you don’t usually get to see, experience a camaraderie of meeting other like-minded people, and means I get to spend five days in a car with my friend.

“This is a bucket list job and something that I’ve always wanted to do. The opportunity came up one day on my Facebook feed and we booked it.”

They are hoping to raise a minimum of £3,000 for the Together Trust.

The pair sold advertising space on the car in exchange of donations to fellow members of their business networking group.

Phil, from Cheadle, added: “By turning the car into a mobile advert, we have been able to promote members of our local BNI business group and raise funds for the Together Trust.

“The Together Trust has been around since the 1800s and has been involved in helping young people with complex health needs, disabilities and autism.

“They invest a lot of time in young people and we realise not everyone is fortunate enough to have opportunities that we do.

“It makes me feel good to help them out while realising a bucket list dream.

“There will be a lot of people doing it for different causes.

“We are fortunate that we have businesses that we can support causes such as this.”

Julie Williams, event fundraiser at the Together Trust, praised their efforts and said: “It’s great to see our relationship with DSG continue and the money they raise will help toward supporting young people across our services.”
