TWO youngsters from Stockport were among a group of seriously ill children who got the chance to spend a day a day with their Manchester City heroes – even starring in the club photo.

The six Blues madkids, who are all receiving on-going treatment for a range of life-threatening illnesses, were invited in as special guests of the club last week on the day the squad were posing for their annual shot.

The children, aged between nine and 14 and all patients at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, were given their own special kit to make them feel right at home.

And they got to meet Pep Guardiola and his high-flying players, as well as the women’s team.

Adam Finch, nine, from Stockport, is currently undergoing treatment for a brain tumour and was given pride of place next to Nolito in the picture.

His mum Clare Finch said: “After such a difficult year in hospital it was so nice to receive such a treat for Adam and was lovely to see a big smile on his face.

“Adam really had the most wonderful day, so I’d like to thank everyone at Manchester City for helping make his dreams come true.”

Ella Travis, ten, also from Stockport, said she was over the moon after meeting the entire City women’s team.

Her mum, Andrea, said: “Ella had an amazing time and is still smiling, even though she isn’t feeling too good.

“I think the highlight was trying Karen Bardsley’s keeper gloves on – she was such a lovely lady and I can’t thank the Manchester City Women enough for giving Ella memories that she will treasure forever.”

The club’s charitable arm, City in the Community, have had a long standing relationship with the hospital, who referred the youngsters to them as die-hard Blues in need of a lift.

Sarah Naismith, head of the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “All the players really went the extra mile to ensure our patients felt special and had a wonderful day.

“The support we have received over the years from the club has really helped us to make a big difference to many poorly patients at our hospital.”

Alex Williams, former Blues goalkeeper and ambassador for City in the Community, said: “These brave youngsters are an inspiration to players and staff alike and we hope that the afternoon they spend with us will provide impactful memories, that will last a lifetime.”
