Bid to reunite woman with lost wedding ring

AN appeal has been issued to reunite a woman with a long-lost wedding ring after more than nine years.

It’s believed that the owner took off the distinctive band to take part in a charity event in Manchester city centre in 2007, then forgot about it and walked off.

The gold ring, engraved with a date and name, has been gathering dust in a box of paperclips in a Cheadle company’s store room for years.

The owner is thought to have taken part in a funfilled art project to create a huge mural of hand prints which was held in St Ann’s Square in March 2007.

Soap star Sue Nicholls, who plays Coronation Street crimper Audrey Roberts, took part in the event alongside members of the public, as our picture from the time shows (above).

The event was designed to raise awareness of a ball held in aid of two Greater Manchester charities, the Together Trust and Central Manchester Women’s Aid, and was organised by corporate events management company Assured Events.

Managing director Karl Perry said the ring was discovered in a box of paperclips in a storeroom during a clean-up at the company’s offices on Gatley Road.

It’s engraved with the date 28.8.39 and the name Mrs K. O. A. Oshodi.

Karl said: “It would be fantastic if we could reunite the ring with the lady or a member of her family. I was there on the day and the cameras came down to take pictures of Sue and others taking part.

“Members of the public were asked to get involved and paint their hands for the mural.

“I remember Sue Nicholls saying to a woman who wanted to take part that she should take her ring off in case it gets covered in paint.

“How or why I remember that after all these years I do not know. I wondered why on earth we had this ring in our possession and it just popped into my mind.

“I can only imagine that it has come from an event that we have been involved in. The lady must have taken the ring off and just forgot about it.

“It’s a long shot, but I hope someone in Manchester can help as I feel guilty that we have had it all these years.”
