It’s lift-off for Ian as new chief exec
AFORMER rocket scientist has been appointed as the new CEO of Beechwood Cancer Care Centre.
Ian Hodge, who has just spent his first week in the new role at Beechwood, is delighted to take up his position and bring his wealth of business knowledge into the charity sector.
Ian started his career in aeronautical engineering, following his time at the University of Manchester that included a PHD sponsored by Rolls Royce. Ian’s career in engineering saw him work globally, before he went on to specialise as a management consultant.
The businessman, who is married with two children and has a three-yearold grandson, said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as the new CEO of Beechwood. As with so many people, cancer is a disease that has touched my life through family and friends, so it is a subject that is close to my heart.
“I am passionate about leading Beechwood to further success by bringing my business experience and knowledge to the organisation – building on the great work that has already been achieved.”
Ian takes on the role after former CEO Allen Whittaker, who led Beechwood for 16 years, passed away in April, following his own battle with cancer.
Ian added: “The staff and volunteers at Beechwood provide an outstanding service for people with cancer and life limiting illnesses and I praise them for the professionalism they have demonstrated through the organisation’s difficult change process after the sad passing of my predecessor – Allen Whittaker – who leaves a lasting impression at Beechwood.
“Staff and volunteers have been very welcoming and I am looking forward to meeting our patients and work with them to shape their needs.
“I would like to see an increased awareness of Beechwood within the wider community together with an increase in service delivery and work collaboratively with other organisations, so we can reach more people living with this dreadful disease.”
