Sports centre in running for major fitness award
HOULDSWORTH Village has been shortlisted in the National Fitness Awards.
The Life Leisure run centre, in Reddish, is in the running to be named Strength Training Gym of the Year
The national awards, which cover the entire health and leisure industry, are seen by many as ‘The Oscars’ of the UK fitness industry.
Shortlisted finalists are visited and assessed by members of the judging team who will take a look around the facilities and chat to members and staff before compiling a comprehensive report.
Houldsworth Village is well known for its ‘Performance Zone’ which is home to the latest specialist weight lifting equipment, with a well-established partnership with British Weight lifting. Competitions are regularly held at the site, which is also a training base for a number of professional weight lifters, many of whom are affiliated to Arnies Inclusive Powerlifting and Weight lifting Club as well as the newly formed Spartan Weight lifting Club, which caters for weight lifters at all levels.
In addition to weight lifting, the centre offers a range of activities catering for all ages and abilities.
The weekly programme includes everything from children’s activities through to ‘Walking Football’ which is popular with older members.
Malcolm McPhail, chief executive officer at Life Leisure said: “The National Fitness Awards are a highlight of the UK sports industry calendar. To have reached the shortlist is a real testament to the work our staff have put into making this centre so welcoming and community-focused
The National Fitness Awards will be taking place on Friday, December 2 at The Athena in Leicester.
They will be hosted by boxing world champion Ricky Hatton and award winning personal trainer and star of The Apprentice Katie Bulmer-Cooke.
