Physical Park bring Moor down to earth

- TONY KIRKHAM WINNINGTON PARK .... 12 HEATON MOOR ............... 3

PASTURES new for Moor this week as they looked to consolidate their top three start to the season as they visited Winnington Park, probably for the first time in our history.

Hopes were high in the Moor camp after a solid start to the season with three wins from three

The game kicked off with Moor benefiting from a strong first half wind at their backs and made all the early running. However, the home defence was in a belligerent mood after a surprise loss seven days earlier to Port Sunlight.

Despite garnering the lions share of possession in the first quarter it was to be the home side who registered the first try of the day after some lamentable tackling saw the home side make a sharp break down the left before moving the ball infield with some great offloading that saw the ball go through several pairs of hands before the try was scored to the right of the posts where a simple conversion was spurned.

Moor reduced the deficit late in the half with a Danny Child penalty.

The second half commenced with the home side having the wind at their backs and immediately pinned Moor back into the their 22 with some good kicking and game management from their half backs.

Moor then broke out of the 22 with a good turnover from Jimmy Hine that was taken on by Massimo Manni who was then harshly penalised for not releasing as he took the ball in to contact.

The penalty was kicked for the corner and one catch and drive later Park extended their lead to 12-3.

Moor tried desperately to get back in to the game but simply couldn’t put two phases together and with the game entering the final quarter Moor finally started to get a foot hold with centres Manni and Chatterton making some sharp breaks up the right before losing possession to a combination of slow support some excellent jackalling from the home back row.

The game finally ended with the home side running out deserved 12-3 winners with their physicality at the breakdown which was clearly the difference between the teams.
