Mainwaring out to make it four from four
FOOTBALLERTURNED-BOXER Matty Mainwaring is set to make a speedy return to the ring when he is back in action this weekend.
Mainwaring will compete at Lancashire County Cricket Club on Saturday, taking on Yailton Neves in a middleweight bout.
This bout comes less than a month after the 26-year-old last fought, when he comfortably defeated Liam Griffiths on points at the start of September.
Mainwaring played for Stockport County during two separate spells, first lining up for the club from 2008 to 2011, before returning for a season in 2012.
He has had a perfect start to his professional career since deciding to become a boxer, winning all three of his bouts so far.
Mainwaring is trained by ex-European welterweight champion Matthew Hatton at his Metro Fitness Gym in Stockport.
Another of Hatton’s fighters will be on the bill, as young prospect Adam Hague looks to continue his unbeaten record.
Hague is 8-0 so far in his career, with his last win coming when he beat James Gorman on points back in June.
Also in action on Saturday is bantamweight Osman Aslam, who has won all six of his fights so far in his professional career, with two of those wins coming by stoppage.
Darryl Sharp will be hoping to return to winning ways when he fights for the first time since his points loss to former world title challenger Jimmy Kelly.
Heavyweight Con Sheehan will be fighting too, while Naseer Baz is set to make his professional debut.
