Justice was done in late, late triumph

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

ON 80 minutes I had, in my head at least, written this column, it we were 1-0 down and witnessing some of the crudest tackling I’ve ever seen and yet another refereeing performance from our old friend Paul Marsden that just beggared belief.

However, at the final whistle everything had to be rewritten as County claimed another late, late win that sent the vast majority of the crowd home extremely happy.

I hoped that Curzon would have learned from last season’s mistakes, not enough porter loos and just one means of refreshment but no, we still had to cue for both – at least the burger van had doubled its serving staff to two.

The biggest smile was the stadium announcer who must have taken lessons from an 80s DJ. Apparently we had Josh Hay-missssssss and J-himmy Balllll in the team, Kenny Boxhall has nothing to worry about.

The game itself was totally dominated by County, the home side hardly ventured into our half of the pitch for the first 45 minutes.

The sad fact is that with all that domination we only created one real chance, a header from Jimmy Ball that nearly snook into the top corner, John Marsden had a half shot but that was largely it.

Things continued in the same vein at the start of the second half but then we saw just how substitutes can change a game.

They brought on Alex Brown, a player just out of retirement, who took hold of the midfield and changed everything for the Nash.

They took the lead with their very first attempt on goal.

We brought on Sam Minihan who quickly equalised and became the 14th goal scorer for us so far this season.

Curzon quickly returned to their fouling and Mr Marsden continued to be extremely lenient, he booked their number 3, 4 and 5.

On another day, with another ref they could have been down to 9 men never mind 10. However, justice was done, as in the third minute of injury time there was the mother of all goalmouth scrambles that ended with Michael Clarke sending the County faithful into raptures.

By the time you read this, dear reader, we’ll have played Fylde in our rearranged fixture, I’m sure it will be a bruising encounter but with confidence high we might just have taken another three points, fingers crossed.
