Scheme that lets students take a Gander

-

One of the initiatives I’m extremely proud of is Gander, which although still in its first year, has already enabled over 500 students to engage in a positive way with 25 different Stockport-based businesses.

More than 130 businesses have signed up to support the Gander initiative, enabling students at Stockport College, Aquinas and Cheadle and Marple to prepare for employment through real life experiences.

One such example, in partnership with the Seashell Trust, has recently been launched which will help students gain first-hand experience of setting up and running a business.

It’s an Apprentice style activity for teams of students from the three colleges.

From a start-up fund of £50, each team is challenged to set up their company and make as much money as possible within an allotted time.

The set up costs and any profit made will then be returned to the Seashell Trust in order to support its work with profoundly disabled young people.

This is an exciting opportunity for the 50 students taking part and is a great example of what can be achieved when organisations work together.

I wish all the students the very best and am hopeful it will generate great benefit in return for the Seashell Trust.
