Close-up look at Punk Rock... and a showcase for talented bands
NK THEATRE ARTS
TICKETS are now on sale for the NK Theatre Arts Performance Class presentation of the Simon Stephens play ‘Punk Rock’ which is being staged at The Forum theatre next month.
The Performance Class is a group of young performers who may be studying theatre or drama at college or university or who may be looking to gain further skills or abilities in theatre studies.
The play is being directed by Jake Martin who lets the audience know what to expect: “Firstly, it is fantastic doing a piece by a local playwright and Simon Stephens is very loyal to his roots, with much of his writing based in Stockport and the challenges that his pieces bring are a big test to our performers.
“We are staging this play in the round which is going to be a fantastic experience to the cast and also really makes Punk Rock so much more intimate for the audience. It is a dramatic play with adult themes so it will really appeal to anyone who enjoys drama.”
Tickets are priced at £10 with concessions also available, with limited seating due to the layout of the theatre.
Tickets can be booked by calling 0333 666 3366 or by visiting www. theforumtheatre.co.uk Darren Stannage
SEVEN MILES OUT
AT Seven Miles Out we love to support all the up and coming young musical talent in our town so this Saturday, October 22 we are proud to host ‘The Sound of Young Stockport’ live music night.
The evening will showcase some of the best local teenage bands that are all hoping to follow in the footsteps of Blossoms’ amazing success.
The great thing about running so many events in Stockport Old Town is that we’ve been able to give young bands a platform to reach a wider audience through The Teenage Market, Foodie Friday and our regular music nights at Seven Miles Out.
It always amazes us how accomplished our local musicians are at such a young age. Square One are a trio of 11-yearolds who played their first gig in Seven Miles Out and then went on to perform at the heatons Summer Festival and recently the Manchester Food and Drink Festival hub in Albert Square.
On Saturday we are delighted to welcome back Don’t Fret and Searching for the enemy, popular young bands who’ve played Foodie Friday many times and local lads Northern Shade will be playing for the first time.
The headliners of the night are The Fuse and the Small Blonde, a band who won the Stockport Music Service Schools Battle of the Bands back in January. They’ve had a great year playing to massive crowds at the heatons Summer Festival and a full house at The Plaza for our Strawberry Studios Stockport celebration concert.
If you love live music and want to hear who might just be the next great band to come out of Stockport, please join us this Saturday.

CHADS THEATRE
The next production is A Doll’s house by henrik Ibsen - a play which this country’s longest-serving theatre critic, Michael Billington of The Guardian, includes in his recent book provocatively entitled “The 101 Greatest Plays - from Antiquity to the Present” - quite an accolade when the likes of King Lear and Waiting for Godot do not make the cut!
Ibsen’s psychological masterpiece was hugely controversial in its day and, even now, this intense emotional thriller remains a classic with an unforgettable ending. It seems
extraordinary that it was written in 1879 given the social mores of the time. Although a popular success, there was widespread hostility towards the play at the time.
Whilst ground breaking in its day, the play continues to resonate today providing powerful and compelling drama as it plots the journey of a wife and mother whose secret seems
doomed to lead to catastrophe.
A Doll’s house by henrik Ibsen runs from October 22-29, 7.45pm at Chads Theatre, Mellor Road, Cheadle hulme SK8 5AU
Tickets can be booked free online via www. chads.co.uk. Di Lawson
