OVER the summer months hundreds of listeners of Stockport’s Radio Station Pure 107.8FM voted for their favourite local in Pure’s annual competition ‘Stockport’s Perfect Pub’.

Presenter of Stockport’s Drive Home, Paul Holloway recently visited the two most popular pubs to present them with their trophies.

Your votes crowned The Midway on New Bridge Lane in Portwood as ‘Stockport’s Perfect Pub’. It’s not the first time the pub run by Paul and Pauline Treanor has been recognised for its excellence. They have won The Stockport Pub Guide ‘Pub of the Year’ and have been regional finalists in the ‘City Life Pub Of The Year’.

So it’s obvious they must be doing something right and as soon as you enter the pub you understand why. Owner Paul Treanor told me the award was down to all his team; cleaners, bar staff, chefs and the management team that all work together to make The Midway a destination people will travel to for good food, a local community pub and a function/ conference venue.

The pub that finished second in the vote also received a trophy.

The Puss In Boots in Offerton is run by Almond Family Pubs.

Chairman Doug Almond came down to the presentation to congratulate manager Nick Bateson.

It was a big week for Nick who had been down to London a couple of day’s earlier as the pub had been nominated for ‘Best British Pub Awards’.

Comedian Katherine Ryan was handing out the awards on that occasion.

Nick said: “It was great to be recognised nationally, even through we didn’t win, it was a big achievement.

Well done to our finalists in this year’s competition, all of whom received good support. The other four pubs were: The Arden Arms on Millgate, The Dog and Partridge, Great Moor, The Moor Top, Heaton Moor, The Pointing Dog, Cheadle Hulme
