Bramhall pick up fourth plate

THROUGHOUT the busy summer season there are hundreds of matches played between the ladies of East Cheshire Clubs in the respective divisions.

The top teams in the leagues then play a knock out stage to determine who plays on finals day in the A, B and Plate teams.

Lymm Golf Club were excellent hosts and provided a fine course and a very hospitable and warm welcome for the players from the six clubs involved in the finals.

The A final saw Astbury playing Wilmslow and some top quality golf was played before Astbury emerged as the proud winners by 4/3.

Providing the vital points were Jane Pickup by one hole, Gill Hodges by 2/1, Gill Riley 3/1 and Ann Soonaye by two holes and Louise Robinson conceded her match to Wilmslow’s Mary Rawsthorn with the result decided. The winners for Wilmslow were Sybra Eardley 2/1 and Sue Hartley by 3/1.

Next up were the B teams of Bramhall and Davenport and again it was close before Bramhall emerged with a 4/3 win.

Their winners were Gill Ridley-Fink by 2/1, Vicki Snape 5/3.

Linzi Webster 3/1 and Claire Fitzpatric­k 5/3 to take the trophy back to Bramhall for the fourth time with their last win being in 2009.

Replying for Davenport were Pat Impney one up, Jillian Carswell 4/3 and Danuta Silva 3/2.

The final contest was between the Plate teams of Alsager and Prestbury with Prestbury looking to add to their recent wins of the trophy in 2011 and 2012.

They made it a hat-trick again winning by 4/3 after losing their opening match to Sue Powell of Alsager.

Convincing wins from Linda Buckley 4/2, Lynne Cameron 8/6, Angela Riordan 6/5 and Helen Bolam 4/3 then took Prestbury home as Darlene Masters and Elaine fawkes conceded their matches.

The winning teams now go on to face the winners of the West Cheshire Leagues at Wallasey aiming to win the county club team championsh­ips.

East Cheshire League organiser Sarah Loy said: “I would like to thank all of the clubs in East Cheshire for completing their fixtures despite some horrendous weather problems during the wet summer and also to Lymm for their fine hosting of a great finals day.

“It is a long slog to reach the finals and all of the teams brought great credit to their clubs

Back at Bramhall their ladies played a medal supporting the Breast Cancer charity and topping the divisions were Ali Hicks 71, Sylvia Howe after a cpo on 80 with Sue Taylor, Kate Sumner 76 and Beryl Galloway 77.

Bramhall’s men were also in medal mode with their divisions topped by Mark Clewley after a cpo on 69 with Ben Gray, Andrew Bryden 69, Colin Bryant after a cpo on 68 with Sasha Whitley and David Bell with a sizzling 63.

Over at Bramall Park their men played a singles Stableford which was won with 42 points by Tom Gibson from Charlie Greenwood 40.

Park ladies played a singles medal and top of division one was Liz Seddon with 76, one less than Janet Cowan.

In division two Pat Hulme was top of the shop with 72 from Lynda Whittle 73.

Marple’s men were in two competitio­ns with a Silver medal being won by Paul Thorley with a stunning 62, three less than Robert Vaisey.

A midweek Stableford was won by Ian Bintliff after a cpo on 39 points with club legend Sid Hodkinson.

It also needed a cpo on 31 points in a Marple ladies Stableford to see Hilda Pownall home from Sarah Beard.

President’s Day at Stockport was won by Rob MacKinnon after a cpo with Paul Corris, one more than Matthew Hawarth.

Stockport ladies played for the Torkington Bowl and it was won in emphatic style by Pat Gemmell with her 70 taking her three shots clear of Tracy Royle.

A Sunday Stableford at Reddish Vale was won by Ross Paton with 40 points from Marc Singleton 38 and Simon Nicholls and Jeff Watson, both 38.

The final round of the Houldswort­h medallion has been completed and the overall winner with 287 is Scott Wrigley from Steve Henderson and Mike Meechaam, both 290.

Houldswort­h ladies played for the Vice captain’s Prize- a club ‘major’ and it was won by Sue Thompson with 77 five shots clear of Doreen Hall, Jeanette Scallon and Audrey Somers.

Hazel Grove’s Wednesday section played a Stableford for the Mike Stone Prize and it needed a cpo on 39 points to see Kenneth Thorman first past the post from Martin Snape and Geoffrey Hare.

A medal for Grove’s ladies had division one topped by Julie Jones with 75 from Christine Schofield 77 and in division two Carole Starr was out on her own with 73 while in division three Margaret Morley won a cpo on 80 from Stephanie Hall.
