-

A TEAM of young martial artists have returned from a world championship competition with a haul of medals.

The Reddish based Jason Bairds Black Belt Academy took a team of seven young martial artists to the WFMC World Championships who represented Team GB.

The team were aged from just seven to 16 and came away with a staggering 13 medals in total, including six golds and certified world titles competing against teams from all the over globe.

The team members were Evan Poulston, Daniel Turner, Parham Saberhannan, Tiger Fawley, Ben Stone, Samantha Parry and Sam Pickford.

The dedicated team train at the academy, which is in Broadstone Mill, six days a week.

The academy itself has taught more than 40 world champions in various World Championships and is looking to expand its team in 2017.

Jason said: “I couldn’t be prouder of these young adults, they all really do put in so much time, effort and hard work and for them to have such a success in my eyes is a shining example of what the children of our area are capable of.

“I train these children each day and watching them progress and grow up in a respectful, positive manner makes my job all the more worthwhile. The JBBBA team have such a great bond, we aren’t just a team, we are an extended family. My older team members have now taken on the role of scouting even more younger members who are up and coming to compete and represent my academy in 2017, I’ve handed over the baton to them and they are now proving to also be great leaders at my academy with all the young children looking up to them as inspirational role models.

“Myself and the whole team would like to thank the following companies who have helped us this year. Sykes Poulston Construction, Water air Air Management ltd, Fancy Feet, Dane Bank Flooring, Scania, Imageit, Scattee.com and Ben Smith Photography.”

Jason is offering one week of free training to anyone who lives locally and would like to have a taster of the classes available.

Anyone who is interested is asked to ‘like’ the academy’s page on Facebook and get in touch via the page.

The academy is based on the fifth floor of Broadstone Mill in Reddish and has around 150 members who train for various goals each week.

Children’s classes are available from the age of three upwards and there are also mixed adult sessions and ladies only adult classes.
